FAQs

CCES is working virtually.  Please contact us for a Zoom appointment at nnhs.ccesinfo@gmail.com

What is CCES?
CCES is a resource center where students are connected with opportunities in the local community to volunteer, make a difference and have their voices heard. We have a database of volunteer opportunities available to review in Room 134. This database has been compiled by our team of mentors, is continually updated, and can be searched by location, age requirements and key interests. We collaborate with NNHS faculty on field trip ideas, civics oriented curriculum, speakers and more.

Who is CCES for?
The Center serves all students, faculty and staff at Newton North.

Can you tell me more about the new NNHS Seal for Civic Action?
NNHS Juniors and Seniors who have demonstrated passion and an on-going dedication to civic life and service may be eligible to receive the NNHS Seal of Civic Action on their transcripts. If you would like more information about this new opportunity, please visit our page on the Seals of Civic Action and Social Justice.

Where is the Center located?
We are currently working remotely, but when school is in full session, we are centrally located on Main Street at Newton North in Room 134 (next to the Cafeteria).

How do I start?
Just drop by or send us an email at nnhs.ccesinfo@gmail.com if you are not able to come during our office hours.

What happens first?
You meet with a mentor to determine your interests and availability. You can choose from existing opportunities in our database or formulate a project of your own.

Do I need to make up my own project?
No! However, you are always welcome to bring your ideas to us and let us help you make a plan.

Can I work on a team?
Teamwork is great – clubs, sports teams and friend groups have all worked on projects together. Come by the Center to see how this can work for you.

What is the time commitment?
That’s up to you! We know you have busy schedules so there are summer opportunities, weekend opportunities and one time opportunities.

Can I serve as a volunteer in the Center?
Yes, please fill out this Volunteer Form, and we will follow up with you soon.

Can I be a CCES Classroom Aide and earn class credit?
Yes, if you are a junior or senior, please complete the Volunteer Form above, and indicate that you would like to be a classroom aide. You can read more about this position in the NNHS School Catalog at https://www.newton.k12.ma.us/Page/2656

Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’
